We're delighted to announce that Sally, a recent graduate of our teacher training, has joined the team as the head of teacher training. Read below to find out more about Sally and her yoga journey.

How did you get into yoga? I already had an established mindfulness meditation practice and my mental health had benefitted a lot from this. Whilst living and working in Costa Rica, I joined a gym which had yoga classes. I decided to try one out and then started going regularly. When I came back to England, I made sure that yoga classes were always on my to do list.

Was there a moment when you realised that you wanted to pursue yoga seriously? When I first moved from doing yoga classes in a gym to a studio environment. I found the studio so much more relaxing and couldn’t face the clanging iron again soon after that.

How has yoga changed you? Yoga has helped me to slow down and prioritise self-care. I no longer see my body as a machine, but as something I need to nourish.

Any advice to people considering it? Make sure you get yourself an actual yoga mat. It doesn’t need to cost the earth, but for years I did yoga on an old camping roll mat and couldn’t understand why I kept slipping out of downward dog...

My favourite quote as a yogi: “But if you think that learning to touch your toes or even stand on your head is the whole of yoga, you have missed most of its bounty, most of its blessings, and most of its beauty.” Light on Life, B. K. S. Iyengar.
